URA has joined forces with the Kampala Catholic Archdiocese to raise funds for the Nsambya Babies Home emphasizing its commitment to supporting vulnerable children in Uganda. The partnership was announced at Lubaga Cathedral, where URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi expressed his excitement about the collaboration.
“We take this as a statement of trust and understanding that besides putting on the toughest face to collect taxes, we are also humans who are moved by the plight of the least privileged, the weak and the vulnerable in our society,” Musinguzi said.
The partnership aims to promote tax compliance through annual activities, including education and sensitization. Musinguzi highlighted the country’s pressing financial needs, citing the UGX32 trillion target for this financial year, which is only half of the national budget of UGX72 trillion.
The Archbishop of Kampala Catholic Archdiocese, Paul Semogerere welcomed the initiative, promising the Church’s support in promoting tax compliance.
“We shall try to put ourselves in order because I know there are many of us who do not understand taxation,” he stated.
The partnership will kick off with a Charity Walk on Saturday September 28, 2024, with the aim of raising at least UGX200 million for the welfare of needy and vulnerable children.
“This partnership demonstrates our commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children in Uganda,” Musinguzi added.
By working together, URA and the Kampala Catholic Archdiocese aim to foster a culture of tax compliance and support the well-being of those who need it most.
