The 2024/2025 edition of Engule Ya Simba festivities kicked off on September 8th, with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) as a major partner. The event aims to promote Buganda culture and localize tax content aligning with URA’s tax literacy initiatives.
Representing the Ag. Assistant Commissioner Public and Corporate Affairs, Ziadi Kakeeto commended Radio Simba for engaging the young generation in the program, resonating with URA’s Tax Alert Generation initiative.
He highlighted URA’s objectives to utilize the Engule competition to raise awareness on tax matters, emphasizing business formalization, early tax payment and the benefits of Section 47A of the Tax Procedures Act. These benefits offer a waiver on interest and penalties for principal tax payments.
Kakeeto emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating that, URA embeds tax questions in popular programs to help people understand taxation in their own language. This initiative aims to educate contestants and listeners on key tax elements.
Radio Simba’s General Manager, Collin Mark Mutambo, appreciated URA’s efforts in extending tax knowledge to ordinary Ugandans through community engagement.
For URA, this is the second time it has participated in the Engule Ya Radio Simba competition to make taxation more accessible and understandable to a wider audience and thus promote voluntary compliance and economic growth.
