Micah Samuel Gaalya, the Assistant Commissioner for Tax Education at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), has urged business owners in Kayunga to prioritize proper record-keeping as a key step towards business growth and tax compliance.
“Keeping proper records is the first step to running a successful and compliant business,” Gaalya said.
He emphasised engaging traders where they are to simplify tax matters and give businesses the support they need.
Julius Mafabi, Julius, Kayunga Domestic Taxes Office Head, said the outreach is aimed at bridging knowledge gaps on return filing, Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS).
Lydia Nakabiri, a tax education officer, led visits to trading centres in Kitimbwa and Busaana, where traders were sensitised on their tax obligations and the benefits of compliance. “We are identifying businesses with strong growth potential and giving them guidance to help them succeed,” said Nakabiri.
As the June 30th financial year deadline approaches, the URA team has intensified efforts to educate taxpayers.
