Busia enforcement nets smugglers in Sofia and Daban

The Busia enforcement recently raided prominent stores in Sofia and Daban, yielding significant seizures and arrests. Following weeks of gathering  intelligence, the team recovered a number of contraband goods.

The operation started with the interception of a vehicle registration number UAH 073N  suspected of carrying smuggled rice from Kenya. The vehicle was apprehended at 4:00am along Milo Nane road and was driven to the URA station in Busia.

Further surveillance also led to the seizure of various goods, including:

– 1.37 cartons of Dunia Wheat Flour from Kenya

– 24 bales of worn clothes
– 5 bags of Bamburi Cement from Kenya
– 4 pieces of Ling Long tyres
– 17 bags of Muhamood Rice from Pakistan,
– 30 bags of Baraf Rice from India

– 15 Rolls of Viscoe Material
– 1 Motorcycle, reg no UFJ 911P
– 1 Toyota Rav 4, reg no UAH 073N

The success of the operation is attributed to reliable informants and trained staff committed to combating smuggling and protecting local businesses and consumers.

Currently, offence management has commenced, with further investigations curtail smuggling networks.
