On Monday staff in Elegu braved the heat in the night to hunt for smugglers in Adjumani following a call from the intelligence team.
“We drove as fast as we could and our driver whisked us to the Adjumani trenches. We pounced on a motor vehicle loaded with 70 bags of 25kgs each ,”Elvis Kairanga, one of the enforcement officers on duty narrated.
Currently, the sugar and conveying car are all safely at the Elegu station and offence management is underway.
Ibrahim Bbossa, the URA spokesperson explained that the acts of smuggling are bad practices that URA has to deal with as a revenue mobiliser by working with other government agencies to take action.
Uganda Revenue Authority therefore wishes to retaliate its commitment to fighting smuggling of all sorts and liberating Uganda from economic saboteurs engaging in illicit trade. The general public is encouraged to report to URA all suspicious trade practices in their areas to enable URA create a level trading ground for all legitimate Traders.
