Afogi team exposes crafty smugglers

Following intelligence reports, the URA enforcement team in Afogi, Moyo district swung into action to a store that belongs to a one notorious smuggler in the town. Inside the store, the smuggler had piled a number of assorted items. Unfortunately, on the day of enforcement, not even the neighbours could point to the owner of the goods nor tell his where abouts.

“I decided to contact the police of Moyo CPS and the Local Council Chairperson to be available as we accessed the stores to retrieve the smuggled goods,” Polycarp Kazoora explained.

During the execution, the following items were discovered in the store

 48 bags of 25 kilograms of Kamuli sugar (for export only).

 46 jerrycans of 20 litres of White Lyly vegetable cooking oil, COO, Indonesia, 3 Jerrycans were damaged and leaking.

3 bags of 50 kilograms of Sugar

8 cartons of 70 grams of Tomato paste

11bags of 25 kilograms of rice

In a similar operation on the same day,14 jerrycans of 20 litres of petrol were recovered.

All the seized goods are said to have been smuggled from Southern Sudan through porous borders. For now, no one has claimed the goods .
