URA educates Mutukula Business Community on DTS and EFRIS systems

By Abdullah Rabiiba

URA recently conducted a comprehensive tax education session in Mutukula, targeting the local business community. The engagement aimed to enhance awareness and improve tax compliance, focusing on two critical systems: the Digital Tracking Stamp (DTS) and the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS).
Reagan Basoga, the supervisor of Customs at Mutukula One-Stop Border Post, emphasized to the participants the importance of understanding taxpayer rights and responsibilities.

“As a service-oriented organization, URA values open dialogue with the public before enforcing any regulations,” he noted.
Steven Mugema, a DTS enforcement officer explained the benefits of the DTS as a system that ensures that all excisable goods, such as beverages and cigarettes, are properly taxed and meet legal standards.

“Businesses dealing in these goods must affix stamps to promote fair trade,” he explained.
Peter Twesigamukama, a Manager in Domestic Taxes clarified on the role of EFRIS as a tool for transparency that helps businesses with VAT reporting.
To ensure seamless integration, URA officials also conducted hands-on demonstrations, providing practical tips for using EFRIS in daily business operations.

Mutukula Town Council Chairperson David Mujjasi acknowledged improved understanding of applicable taxes, payment procedures and timelines. The session was attended by traders, politicians and key stakeholders.

By conducting such educational sessions, URA reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culture of compliance and supporting Uganda’s development agenda.
