Uganda Revenue Authority has urged Ministries, Agencies, and Departments to ensure tax compliance so as to bridge revenue gaps.
Marion Lubowa, the team lead government revenue reconciliation and reporting in the Public Sector Office (PSO), emphasized the importance of timely service and compliance during an appearance on the URA online TV under the Tax Mchuzi show.
Lubowa noted significant progress in filing ratios from 35% to now 90% but stressed the goal of achieving 100% compliance.
She also highlighted the need for government entities to pay and file Pay As You earn(PAYE), Withholding tax, and Value Added Tax(VAT).
Claire Tumusiime, a Client Relationship Manager under PSO emphasized the responsibilities of MDAs in registration, formalization and paying taxes due. Tumusiime encouraged the use of the revamped web portal for registration and emphasized the importance of accurate information.
She urged accounting officers to seek support from URA in case of issues and warned of repercussions of non-compliance, including investigations, penalties and the impact of Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets(PPDA).
