A team from the Gambia Revenue Authority recently visited Uganda Revenue Authority for a week-long benchmarking exercise on the Rental Tax Compliance System (RTC).
The team led by the Commissioner General of GRA Yankuba Darboe sought to conduct due diligence on the rental income mobilization system procurement process and to understand the advantages, difficulties and potential of the system as well as URA’s and other stakeholders’ experiences utilizing it.
Esther Ssemakula Nabatanzi, the Ag. Manager Rental Tax briefed the team on the system’s sustainability, institutional and legislative frameworks and accomplishments since the system was adopted in Uganda.
In his remarks, the Commissioner General, John R. Musinguzi mentioned that the technology is relatively new acquired only three years back and URA is still learning and trying to customize it.
“I appreciate the fact that organizations can learn from each other through sharing ideas and that it is through this that countries could be delivered from donor dependency,” said Musinguzi.
Yankuba expressed gratitude to URA for providing a platform that allows them to continuously learn and compare their systems. He said that they have benchmarked against the Digital Tracking Solution and the Regional Electric Cargo Tracking System.
“I appreciate the partnership and relationship we share and it has yielded results through learning to enhance our technology since we are moving from manual processes to automation,” he said.
Inorder to boost rental income and strengthen its revenue base, the Gambia Revenue Authority intends to acquire the RTC system.
