Early this week, URA participated in the World Tourism Day celebrations that were held at the Boma grounds in Hoima.
URA’s exhibition focused on showcasing her museum and highlighting the institution’s history since its inception in 1991.
On display were different items utilized in revenue mobilization over the years, including a typewriter, the manual register, and the first tax calculator, all of which were skillfully explained to the visitors by Bonny Olobo, curator of the URA museum.
Celebrated every September 27, this year’s National celebrations were hinged on the theme “Tourism and Green Investments” and were graced by dignitaries, including the Prime Minister, Hon. Nabbanja Robinah, who was the Chief Guest.
During her visit to the URA stall, she appreciated the tax body for progressively growing revenue collections over the years.
“You have improved revenue mobilization and collection over the years without backtracking. This is a tremendous achievement and thank you for the job well done,” said Hon. Nabbanja.
The Prime Minister cautioned the public on preserving the environment, noting that the world is experiencing serious climate change and disasters which have led to loss of life and property.
“We cannot let our wetlands and forests get destroyed while we are looking. Destroying the environment means destroying a home, our beautiful wildlife, and plants. The environment is one of the major sources of revenue for our country,” she added.
She further called for the planting of more trees to protect and conserve the environment, saying sustainable use of the resources will benefit everybody and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.
Over 40 organizations, including the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the Parliament of Uganda, the Bank of Uganda, and the Kampala City Council Authority, among others, exhibited their services and goods.
