Following continuous reports of a business man sourcing hides in the districts of Namayingo and Busia for a lucrative market in Nigeria. The URA enforcement team in Busia embarked on strategies to net him.
Unknown of the watchful eye of the Taxman, the culprits went ahead to load their merchandise, processed export documentation and headed to Busia under controlled surveillance.
By 3:30AM on Sunday, a truck registration number KCD 430Q/ ZE 0240 and its contents of 20 tons of sun-dried cow hides and skins were safely in the URA custody.
Although smugglers keep evolving with new tricks, URA is not giving up enforcement. There are more than 40 scanners deployed at the different boarder stations to net culprits.
