As part of URA ‘s renewed commitment to embrace partnerships for an engaged citizenry, URA will participate in the 4th Edition of the NBS Baraza. The Baraza provides opportunity for URA to engage with the various players in the Housing and real estate industry on various tax issues.
During the launch held on Tuesday, Ibrahim Bbossa, the URA Assistant Commissioner Public & Corporate Affairs urged the Public to work closely with Taxman and to avoid enforcement and prosecution.
“Uganda Revenue Authority is in a phase of transformation, we really want to work together and discuss on issues other than fighting back,” Bbossa told the audience.
He added that through data sharing with National Water & Sewerage Corporation and Uganda National Bureau of Standards, more than 3,000 landlords have been added on the register and will start paying their fair share of tax.
Why NBS Housing Baraza?
According to the Desire Derrick Mugumisa, the Head of Corporate Relations at Next Media, the Housing Baraza is a town hall event aimed at addressing issues affecting Uganda’s housing market. Other stakeholders that will participate this year include; National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Innovations Village, Housing Finance Bank and National Planning Authority (NPA).
During the panel discussion, the sales Executive NSSF Janet Mugume urged Ugandans to engage in real estate in order to provide housing solutions to the ever growing Population.
This comes after a report presented by Hon. Sam Mayanja, the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban development revealed that Uganda has a housing deficit of 2.4m housing units with a larger share among the poor.
In order to cover the housing shortfall, Dr. Patrick Olumo of the National Planning Authority promised that by 2040, Uganda will have constructed 12.6m housing units.
