Uganda Revenue Authority visited Uganda Breweries Limited to appreciate the work on ground as well commission the new logistics warehouse and beer filtration plant.
The Commissioner General of URA, John R Musinguzi appreciated the innovations, investment and capacity developed at UBL. He noted that the visit is a landmark of an improved relationship between URA and UBL as strategic partners in nation building.
Musinguzi recognized UBL for the significant revenue contribution made in the past years of UGX 7.8 trillion and called upon them to join hands with URA in redeeming the 64.5% market share that goes to illicit alcohol illicit to avoid the revenue loss.
“Let’s share ideas, information and discuss on the necessary regulations on how best we can clamp illicit so as to develop this industry,” Musinguzi added.
He also added that UBL had 5 court cases yet they were top taxpayers. These have all since been resolved attributed to URA ’s renewed commitment to embrace partnerships and work with stakeholders.
According to Andrew Kilonzo, the Managing Director Uganda Breweries Limited , the new warehouse is expected to increase efficiency in production, storage and packaging. The Warehouse will be able to accommodate 300,000 cases of beer and trade 50,000 bottles on a regular basis-this will in turn improve revenues.
Kilonzo appreciated URA for the good working relationship and for providing a platform to demonstrate the values that UBL stands for to deliver on their mandate as corporate citizens.
“We have been able to navigate some of the challenges and grown our revenue to more than 420 billion. We are also committing to support the revenue mobilization agenda and ensure we are compliant,” he affirmed.
Kilonzo praised URA for recognizing them as Authorized Economic Operators, a status URA grants to companies they highly trust to assess themselves and willfully pay taxes.
