URA recently held an engagement with the Kikuubo business leaders in Nakawa to discuss the progress of EFRIS since implementation. During the engagement John R. Musinguzi, the Commissioner General noted that Kikuubo is a major business hub that URA needs to support to generate the much needed revenue.
In terms of compliance, Musinguzi added that Kikuubo has 4455 registered taxpayers with the largest number of returns filed which shows that most traders are not complying. Of the registered taxpayers, 682 are transacting through the web portal ,82 are using system to system and only 15 have acquired the EFDS.
Meanwhile, Hajji Mohammad Katimbo, the Chairperson of the traders appreciated URA for the willingness to handhold them and also utilizing the leadership of Kikuubo to reach out to the traders.
He requested the URA team to organize more trainings on usage of EFDs and EFRIS because it is still a new system prone to errors.
“URA should also establish a relationship office in Kikuubo as away of bringing in revenue in a peaceful way,” Katimbo said.
In response, Musinguzi assured the traders of URA support and urged those with outstanding penalties to be clear them.
