URA, the Ministry of Health and Artson Systems Limited have partnered to digitize healthcare services with the integration of the eAFYA Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system with the URA payment system. This solution will streamline reporting, simplify non-tax revenue collection from health facilities and enhance the overall efficiency of healthcare services.

The eAFYA EMR system is a platform that covers both clinical and non-clinical workflows, including finance and commodity management. Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, URA and banking partners, this system is designed to facilitate seamless payment processes, reduce manual errors, and improve patient care.

Kiruddu National Referral Hospital, recognized for its best practices in hospital automation, was selected to pilot the integrated eAFYA and URA system.

The URA team, led by Busingye Kelemensio, Manager revenue accounting and reconciliation, expressed their satisfaction with the progress made so far. “We are excited to see the system go live, and we will use the remaining days of this month to address any gaps. Come 01st  May, the system will be fully operational,” she declared.

“The eAFYA system is designed to streamline clinical and non-clinical workflows, improving the efficiency and quality of healthcare services,” he said.

The integrated eAFYA and URA system offers several key features, including automated payment process, PRN generation, validation and training. To ensure the successful implementation of the integrated system, hospitals are required to provide secure space for payment, uninterrupted Internet Access. And management support.

Jamiru Mpiima, Digitalization Coordinator at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of digitalization in healthcare, “this integration is a significant step towards achieving our goal of digitizing healthcare services in Uganda.”

This integration of the eAFYA EMR system with the URA payment system marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s healthcare sector with the potential to transform healthcare services in the country. As the system goes live, stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on patients, healthcare workers and the overall healthcare system.
