A section of URA staff were part of the thousands of runners that braved a heavy downpour on Sunday morning to participate in the 2025 Kabaka ’s birthday run-an annual event aimed at ending HIV/AIDS by 20230.
Last week, the taxman reaffirmed their commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS with a generous donation of UGX10 millions in support of the 12th edition of the run.
Delivering the Kabaka’s message, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, called upon men to be firm and bold in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS.
He urged them to take the lead and align themselves with the Kabaka’s vision of ending HIV by 2030.
“This is the season where we must have a generation of men that are responsive and proactive in the fight to end this disease especially amongst the youths, he affirmed.
Robert Kalumba, the Ag. Assistant Commissioner, Public and Corporate Affairs, lauded the positive working relations between the taxman and Buganda Kingdom aimed at enhancing tax education.
Kalumba also asserted that the fight against HIV/AIDS is a noble cause that strongly resonates with the taxpaying community, within which URA operates. As such, the tax body has the responsibility to empower those it serves.
“URA does not operate in a vacuum, it operates for and on behalf of the community. We are one of the building blocks of society. That is why we want to actively engage in the fight against one of the most pressing global health challenges,” he explained.
Kalumba also noted that, the URA management has enacted several policies and put up support systems, to help employees living with the disease, and to put an end to the stigma that is associated with HIV/AIDS in the workplace.
