URA Commissions New Bonded Warehouse in Malaba

URA has commissioned a new bonded warehouse at the Malaba One Stop Border Post to enhance cargo handling. The warehouse, constructed by Tan Investments, can accommodate up to 1,000 trucks.

Catherine Donovan Kyokunda, the Commissioner of Legal Services and Board Affairs, represented the Commissioner General at the launch on Saturday. She praised the development as a significant step in expanding URA operations and strengthening Uganda’s logistical capabilities in the region.

“This is set to enhance import and export activities more efficiently, boost trade, and position Uganda as a strategic hub for commerce and investment,” she remarked.

As a landlocked country, Uganda heavily relies on efficient trade corridors and a robust customs network.

The establishment of the ICD bolsters Uganda’s supply chain by providing a crucial clearing point for goods destined for Northern and Eastern Uganda. This will alleviate congestion in the capital and offer traders a more convenient and cost-effective alternative for cargo clearance.

Donovan reaffirmed URA’s commitment to supporting Tan Investments through tax education and compliance assistance.

“We are here to help you grow—because when you succeed, Uganda succeeds,” Donovan stated. “Together, we can certainly help Uganda improve our Tax to GDP ratio from the current approximately 13% to over 20%.”

She also commended the proprietors for their contribution to Uganda’s economic growth.

“Since registering their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), Tan Investments has been more than just a registered business,” she noted. “They’ve exemplified compliance.”

Hon. Sanjay Tanna, the Director of Tan Investments, expressed his gratitude to URA, particularly the Customs Department, for the excellent partnership and support extended to his establishment.

This occasion was also attended by Hajj Asadu Kigozi Kisitu the Ag. Commissioner Customs, Assistant Commissioner Customs Risk Management James Malinzi and Dr. Geoffrey Okaka  the Assistant Commissioner of Field Services.
