The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) held its annual Iftar dinner at the Mestil Hotel in Kampala Last Friday, bringing together Muslim leaders, business owners, and other key stakeholders in a spirit of unity and goodwill.
The event, which marks the holy month of Ramadan, served as a platform to foster closer ties between the tax body and Uganda’s Islamic community.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the URA Commissioner General, the Commissioner for Executive Office Operations, Abel Kagumire, reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote fairness, transparency, and economic growth, while also respecting the values and traditions of the Islamic faith.
He acknowledged the vital role that the Muslim community plays in Uganda’s economic development, particularly through businesses and entrepreneurship.
Hajj Asadu Kigozi Kisitu, the Ag. Commissioner of Customs and Chairman of the URA Muslim Community expressed his deep appreciation to the senior management of URA for their continued support, especially for providing the Muslim community with a designated place of worship.
This gesture, he noted, has contributed to a greater sense of unity and inclusion within the authority.
He called on those present to extend their support to the less privileged, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
“As we break our fast tonight, let us remember those who are less fortunate, and make efforts to uplift them through charity and kindness.”
The URA Muslim Iftar dinner is an annual event held to identify with taxpayers in the Muslim community.
