The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Tujenge Bus Team has embarked on a week-long mission to harmonise tax assessment and collection in Mbarara and the neighbouring areas of Lyantonde district.
Spearheaded by the DT Mbarara Office, the initiative seeking to boost tax compliance and revenue collection has seen the Tax Education (TE) foot soldiers, TREP and DT officers in the region effectively reach out to various traders.
According to Boaz Mwesigye, station head of Mbarara DT, the team is adopting a multifaceted approach, with a special focus on presumptive and rental tax.
“We are conducting a thorough assessment of businesses to determine their tax compliance status. With commitment and teamwork, we will achieve set targets and even surpass them,” Mwesigye emphasized.
The team is providing guidance on tax-related matters to traders who were previously unaware of their tax obligations by educating and empowering them to comply with the law and registering their businesses.
Businesses that require adequate management of tax assessments are also being supported, ensuring that the correct amount of tax is remitted.
