The Uganda Revenue Authority recently received a KACITA Excellence Award in recognition of being the Best Government Agency in 2024.
During the ceremony, Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) Chairman, Dr. Thadeus Musoke Nagenda commended the Taxman for the engagements held during the year that ended the traders strike during the implementation of the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS).
“When EFRIS was implemented earlier this year, we didn’t like it and closed our shops. But URA engaged us all the time, until the president gave directives on the issue of penalties which directive URA has since been implemented,” said Musoke.
He recalled a time when KACITA could not even talk to URA officials due to EFRIS, but the now the relationship is an improved one.
“URA had to call us for engagements to calm down the situation and I can proudly say, URA is engaging and I believe that is why the public voted it for the best government agency of the year,” he said.
Musoke appreciated URA for the current Tax Waiver that ends on 31st December 2024, rallying all taxpayers to utilize the opportunity to clear their outstanding principal tax as of 30th June 2023.
Receiving the Award at Wonder World Auditorium in Kansanga, URA Commissioner External Operations Office, Abel Kagumire thanked KACITA management and the public for the confidence they have in URA as a government agency.
“Thank you so much for this award. At URA we are doing our best to mobilize and collect revenue for the government, which work is not easy as you witnessed during the traders’ strike. But this award shows that you still trust us with carrying out our mandate,” said Kagumire.
He encouraged the taxpayers to always contact URA for any tax related matter, saying, URA is a client-centric agency that is willing to support all taxpayers become compliant .
