By Carol Nabulime

Recently more than 100 students from Seeta High school visited URA, where they received an informative session on the significance of taxation, Uganda ‘s tax regime, and URA ‘s vital role in driving national development.

The educational tour aimed at enlightening the students on the importance of tax compliance and its impact on the country ‘s growth and prosperity.

Robert Kalumba, the Manager of Public and Corporate Affairs, informed the learners that URA is the bedrock of Uganda’s economy since the collected revenue funds essential services like healthcare, education, infrastructure, and security.

“Every shilling the taxpayer contributes makes a tangible difference in the lives of millions of Ugandans,” Kalumba emphasized.

Agnes Drasi Akello, the Ag. Assistant Commissioner of Learning and Development, encouraged the students to emulate the URA Core Values of Patriotism, Integrity, and Professionalism.

She urged them to utilize the opportunity to understand the intricacies of URA and its impact on society.

In her remarks, Rytter Muzira, the Manager of Tax Education, underscored the essence of the experiential learning opportunity, noting that it would propel the students into the details of the tax world that fosters economic development.

By the end of the training, the students had gained insights into the tax compliance cycle, tax computations for both local and international trade taxes, challenges in tax administration, and the ongoing compliance improvement interventions being undertaken.
