The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, met with URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi yesterday to discuss matters of common interest and possible partnerships.
Kaziimba recognized URA’s integral role in Uganda’s development and expressed willingness to work with the tax body to enhance compliance.
He underscored the importance of compliance, expressing, “As Christians, we should pay taxes to set a compliant and righteous example for others.”
On his part, Musinguzi lauded URA’s relationship with the church, revealing that the tax body closely works with religious institutions to mobilize Ugandans to fulfill their tax obligations.
“The aim is to encourage tax compliance, as businesses tend to prefer paying minimal taxes by default,” he remarked.
He requested the archbishop include URA in church engagements like the “House of Bishops” to discuss further partnerships and raise awareness about taxes.
The idea was welcomed by the archbishop who noted that platforms such as these would be beneficial to educate the public about URA’s role and expectations, as many are still ignorant.
