The URA tax education team is currently conducting Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) training sessions at Makerere University Business School (MUBS). The trainings advanced by the Tax Education (TE) Unit are majorly targeting University Students with the desire to learn about the nuances of taxation.
This year’s engagement is premised on URA ‘s vision of nurturing a tax alert generation – a magic bullet for current and future compliance initiatives.
“Voluntary means that these trainings take a personal desire on the side of the students, who devote to be part of them,” said Angella Kongai, a tax education officer, leading the engagement.
Akongai also added that URA started with Universities with the desire to empower these students. Only when we are done with the students then we roll out to other stakeholders spread all over the country.”
Prior to the MUBS engagement, the VITA training took place in October of last year at Makerere University’s Faculty of Business. After MUBS, subsequent engagements will be held at Ndejje University between the 3rd and 4th of April. Uganda Martyrs University will then follow suit on the 9th and 10th of April.
Meanwhile, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a program designed to engage University Tax Societies’ members (students) into tax preparation services. The program aims at enabling these students acquire hands-on experience while giving back to their communities.
