URA enforcement in Namayingo has impounded a truck registration number UAQ 597X for smuggling rice. The truck was found carrying 1200 kilograms of Hilal rice, an Indian brand.
“Our intellectual intelligence team on ground gave us information and alerts to be executed by the standby team,” Marvin Tayebwa of Namayingo said.
However, Godson Mwesigye, the Manager Enforcement Operations urged the public to hire credible persons especially clearing agents to help in the coordinating and delivery of their goods.
“If you have a truck, be sure of the driver you are recruiting and guide him. Keep checking on them and ensure they offload goods within the customs controlled area,” Mwesigye warned.
He added that failure to do so would attract penalties and the affected trucks would be forfeited to government.
For now, URA has continued to intensify intelligence guided operations leveraging on the use of Non-Intrusive Inspection technology at the border points and field intelligence enforcement operations.
