The URA Commissioner General, John R. Musinguzi hosted a delegation from the Zimbabwe Treasury Department, where they shared insights on the best practices in gender equality and inclusion and how to empower women in revenue administration.
According to Arina Manyanya, the Director in the Ministry of Finance of Zimbabwe and the head of the delegation, the team sought to learn, improve, and embrace the gender planning process. He also indicated that they are already issuing statements on women’s empowerment to deter gender-based violence and inequality due to cultural practices.
Musinguzi put Uganda’s gender emancipation efforts into perspective, noting that the President championed the cause of women’s emancipation through the affirmative action of 1.5 points for girls and other government policies. The former was to promote girl-child education and facilitate their stay in school.
He further stated that women can compete favorably with men, and many have been appointed to positions on merit.
In his remarks, URA’s Assistant Commissioner of Public and Corporate Affairs, Ibrahim Bbossa, shared an overview of the Uganda Revenue Authority to help the team understand URA’s business. He further told the team that URA has come up with many initiatives and enhanced automation to ease the compliance journey of taxpayers.
