Uganda Revenue Authority celebrated the triple win of awards for Good Governance, Stakeholder relations, and Leadership. The Board Chairman, Juma Kisaame, won one of the awards from LEAD, while the other two were given to Commissioner General John Musinguzi and URA management by KACITA.
Kisaame expressed his gratitude to URA management for their unwavering support and apt, comprehensive exposés that were instrumental in their decision-making process. He extended special appreciation to the outgoing board secretary, Patience T. Rubagumya, for the guidance and support provided to the board in the execution of the role.
“As we gather today, let’s not forget that recognition fuels our passion and motivates public sector entities such as URA to strive for excellence and improve the quality of corporate governance. URA will continue its journey of growth, dedication, and commitment to provide top-notch services,” explained Kisaame.
Musinguzi expressed his gratitude for the triple win. He stated that the awards are a true testimony that things are improving in the organization and the country. He congratulated the board chair and the entire board for winning the most excellent corporate leadership team award.
KACITA awarded URA as the most outstanding government agency and an outstanding leader among government agencies. It was also noted that voluntary compliance is the key to mobilizing more revenue; hence, the new approach of engaging with stakeholders positions URA in the good graces of taxpayers.
The awards are not only a show of goodwill from the public but also a vote of confidence in URA to transform the economy and lead Uganda out of economic dependence.
The League of East African Directors (LEAD) and Non-Executive Director Awards are held annually. LEAD provides services like board training and appraisals, as well as recruiting and sourcing board members for companies.
Juma Kisaame, the Chairman of the Board of URA, won the public service sector award against two other nominees, Felix Okoboi from the Uganda Development Bank and Emmanuel Katongole from the Uganda National Oil Company.
