Juxtaposition is a word we thought we would never have to use in these sad tales of economic sabotage but what happened in Kyotera recently is just that. A juxtaposition of expectations.
You see, a village LC is supposed to be a beacon of decorum, the gatekeeper of etiquette, and by all means the blueprint of how to be a model citizen but the LC1 of Kinyankore village in Kyotera district chose the notorious path.
For a minute, his name had rolled off the tongue of the newly recruited CI in Kyotera but the enforcement team was at first reluctant to move in on the Intel.
But as a Ugandan once famously quipped, ‘he who alleges, musti puroov’. The intel was put to the test with the informant leading the team to a suspected consolidated centre of contraband. The store turned out to belong to the village chief.
Efforts by our enforcement officer to call the chairman on phone to come and open the store fell on deaf ears.
“Temuli ku appointment”, he retorted.
Another call from the Police had him at the store in no minute and once the door was ajar, the team came face to face with contraband galore.
The contraband was delivered to the URA Masaka Office for offence management proceedings.
