In an effort to preserve and strengthen working relationships, the media management team visited selected radio stations in Kampala last Friday.
The visits allowed the team to get insights into the changing trends in the media, lobby for better coverage of URA events and show appreciation for the publicity provided thus far.
Kenneth Lukwago Anderson, the producer of the Spectrum show on Radio One, lauded URA for providing an online option, URA TV, where media houses can source content without having to cover events physically.
He pointed out that this has been helpful in light of the evolving media trends, which have forced journalists to multitask, hence limiting their physical coverage of events.
Inorder to enhance URA’s talk shows, Lukwago advised the team to consider having two resources as opposed to one. This, he said, would lessen monotony and ensure taxpayer queries outside the area of discussion are ably responded to.
He also tipped URA to look at involving taxpayers in some of the talk shows to provide advocacy and incorporate a discussion component.
“You are talking about rental tax, and we have the landlords’ association; bring them on board. Sometimes it does not add value for you to talk to yourselves. The landlord would appeal to other landlords,” he advised.
The team at Innerman FM in Kikoni tipped URA to leverage church events as an avenue for providing tax education.
In addition to Innerman and Radio One, the team also visited Akaboozi and Namirembe FM.
