Over 60 Chairpersons from Kampala participated in a tax education engagement that happened at the JBK hotel last Friday.
Discussions centered on presumptive tax, income tax, business registration, and record keeping.
On record keeping, Michael Masembe, the Ag. Manager tax education, urged the chairpersons to adopt the practice, adding that it simplifies dealings with the taxman.
Assistant Commissioner of Public and Corporate Affairs at URA, Ibrahim Bbossa, tipped them on the newly introduced USSD code that can be used to pay presumptive tax and other forms of income tax. He also cautioned them to be wary of fraudsters who claim to give favors from URA.
“URA doesn’t give a waiver or tax exemption. It is given by the Ministry of Finance. In the three years of Musinguzi’s leadership, he hasn’t given waivers to anyone,” he stated.
Mukasa Sentamu Chairperson Muno B, City House, commended URA on the engagement, saying such interactions help to bridge the gap between taxpayers and URA.
“The tax education from URA has been good. It has enlightened us as leaders to go and inform our people of what they are supposed to pay. This is because there are so many middlemen in the chain of tax collection,” he said.
