Packwach customs team impounds 5.6 tons of powdered milk

On the Sunday night, the URA team in Packwach received information about a smuggler who had concealed smuggled goods in maize sacks. These goods were coming from Koboko heading to Kampala.

As is the norm now, most smugglers now employ counter informers to monitor the URA movements.

Despite this “alertness” from the smuggler, the URA team deployed that night from midnight.

And by 3:00pm the smuggler was netted out of hiding with the help of the Regional Intelligence Liason Officers(RILO). The truck he was driving under registration number UAN 910J was verified. Here 5.6 tones,25 kilograms of Autosome buttermilk powder made in France were discovered.

Currently, offence management has commenced which includes penalizing the suspect.

A suspect is either the owner of the truck or the driver who then makes a statement explaining where the cargo was coming from, where they got it from and the contract of the transport company involved. Taxes are then computed to allow the taxpayer pay their due tax.
