The Judiciary has praised URA for being one of the first government agencies to embrace the Electronic Court Case Management Information System which is aimed at improving tracking of cases and reducing human interaction in case processes.
These remarks were made by Pamela Lamunu Ocaya, the Deputy Registrar for the High Court’s Anti-Corruption division recently.
Ocaya also commended URA for using plea deals which has reduced on the case backlogs.
In her remarks, Commissioner Legal Services & Board Affairs, Patience Rubagumya thanked the Anti-Corruption court for expeditiously handling URA’s cases. She argued that in tax matters, time is very important because it can hold money for a tax payer or revenue for the government.”
As the financial year closes, she also urged her team in the Legal Department to double their effort and do things differently.
“Let’s do things that are related to the mandate of revenue collection, work towards challenging ourselves to be known for something good, use the remaining days to close up on the targets that we have, but as well plan knowing the institution is counting on us,” Rubagumya said.
