Bankers under their umbrella organisation the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA) have requested for better management of processes by the Uganda Revenue Authority.
During a one-day engagement with the tax body, bankers raised concerns on the delays in executing court decisions, late refunds and the lack of clarity in information issued by the authority which they say makes it hard for them to comply.
This feedback was well received by the Commissioner legal services URA Mrs. Patience Rubagumya who promised to engage the concerned teams and urged the bankers to always engage the authority on matters arising instead of waiting for issues to go to court.
“These engagements should be held quite often. Do not wait for courts time to resolve issues, come to us, and we shall listen to you. More so, when we come to you please cooperate,” she said.
She also encouraged them to continue fulfilling their tax obligations and harnessing their relationship with URA while ensuring that all banks play their part in revenue mobilisation.
Additionally, both parties agreed to take proactive steps in ensuring that the issues raised are resolved and that the both teams continue to engage on a regular basis to iron out any legal and administrative issues that may arise.
UBA is an umbrella organization that brings together licensed commercial banks supervised by Bank of Uganda. The association was established in 1981 and is currently comprised of 35 members.
