John R. Musinguzi, the Commissioner General of URA yesterday launched a practical skills development academy by Grant Thornton Uganda. At the ceremony, he lauded the firm for aligning themselves to Uganda’s mission of skilling youth at zero cost.
Musinguzi explained that launching a practical skills development academy is a corporate social responsibility project under the Grant Thornton foundation. It is a revolutionary idea that will create impact since it aims at providing a hands-on training to fresh graduates.
“Uganda is blessed with young and vibrant people full of potential though we face a challenge of a mismatch of skills between what the youth have and the requirements on the job market. Let us bridge the gap by empowering the youth with the necessary job-ready and entrepreneur skills to thrive in the ever-evolving economic landscape, “he cautioned.
He also commended the audit firm for supporting taxpayers in unlocking their growth potential through the different services they offer.
“Grant Thornton’s approach is to actively engage its stakeholders through partnership, growth and development of Uganda,” Musinguzi added.
Anil Patel, the Director Grant Thornton said the new academy will mainly instill practical skills to fresh graduates especially in ethics and integrity.
Patel also revealed that more than 500 students have applied to the academy and successful candidates will study for six months while undertaking six modules.
