The URA enforcement team in Arua has impounded a truck registration number UAY 705C that was found carrying 8,750 bombas of Supermatch cigarettes manufactured in South Sudan.
According to customs Officer Douglas Amayo, the truck that had long eluded their watchful eyes was finally captured following intel from a trusted source in Congo.
“We received intelligence that there were cigarettes in Congo which were intended to come into Uganda deep in the night. On intercepting the truck WOBUSOBOZI RUHANGA’, it was our luck that it was the one we have been looking for,” he said.
The truck which was in Uganda moved into Congo via a porous border known as Angu’owuobo after the enforcement team vacated “Kampala Market” in Logiri sub-county, Arua district.
Upon impoundment, the truck was forwarded to the URA customs warehouse for further management and the suspects to Revenue Intelligence for investigation.
