Rotary Club benchmarks on URA’s processes

URA recently engaged with Rotarians on the processes and systems improvements in the organization. The one-day benchmarking mission of the Rotary Club Kampala Maisha was held at the URA headquarters, Nakawa.

Addressing Rotarians, the Assistant Commissioner, Learning and Development Irene Mbabazi Irumba said URA is a transformational organization which is working hard to enable Uganda become economically independent. She however noted that Uganda cannot be economically independent without the taxpayer, the reason URA has embarked on a sensitization and education campaign for the taxpayer to know his rights and obligations.

“We have four pillars that URA is focusing on to achieve its mandate of tax mobilization and collections namely client support, process enhancement and improvement, IT leverage which involves systems, and professionalism of staff in executing clients’ issues,” Irene.

Mbabazi added that URA is engaging different stakeholders in their sectors in order to understand them better for improved service delivery.

Ag. Manager Tax Education Michael Masembe informed Rotarians that URA has introduced various solutions to enable and facilitate the taxpayer in meeting their obligations in regards to taxation.

“We have automated most of the processes and systems by introducing solutions such as Single Window, Regional Electronic Cargo Tracking system, Single Customs Territory, Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution, Digital Tracking Solution, Bonded Warehousing Information Management System, and the Client Relationship Management tool,” he said.

Masembe added that URA has introduced a USSD code *285#to facilitate taxpayers, mostly in the informal sector such as the small and medium taxpayers, boda boda riders and taxi operators.

Emphasising the Client Support pillar, he explained that URA has a 24-hour contact centre deployed with professional staff to assist taxpayers who have any challenge.

In his address, Milton Owor President Rotary Club Kampala Maisha appreciated URA’s efforts in mobilizing revenue adding that they are looking forward to working with the tax body.
