The Commissioner General of URA John R Musinguzi hosted a team from the US Agency for International Development(USAID) to strengthen relations and meet the new Vice President Mr. Eric Uggen.
USAID is currently funding the Domestic Revenue Mobilization for Development Project (DMR4D) which is aimed at supporting government in addressing key aspects of a sound tax administration and tax policy.
Eric Uggen, Vice President, Economic Policy and Governance USAID appreciated URA for the co-operation in tax administration through Kieran Holmes one of the consultants under DRM4D supporting URA.
He also pledged more support basing on URA’s needs saying, “we shall do our best to offer more support in different areas as we learn more of the levels of support URA requires.”
CG appreciated the team and requested them to further support URA in the currently ongoing performance validation.
Sandra Kaitale, Ag. Commissioner Domestic Taxes requested the team to offer support to the debt management unit and support in changing the mining regime so that URA can be furnished with the right information for tax purposes.
“We would like to structure the mining sector all the way from licensing up to collection,” She said.
CG reiterated Kaitale’s request saying,” mining is an area with potential and we need to give it so much strength in terms of training so that we are able to tap into that revenue.”
USAID is one URA’s valued partners and has been supporting in audit, staff capacity building, integrity development, ensuring a high-performance culture and other core fields.
