KRA and URA hold knowledge sharing on performance validation

By Irene Kabakama, Media Management

URA Senior Management, technical team and officials from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have concluded a 2-day knowledge sharing intended to equip validators of performance management with the capacity to manage the process.

The sessions that were spearheaded by URA’s Commissioner General John Musinguzi and Deputy Commissioner Performance Management KRA Bernard Ambasa were symbiotic as both bodies learnt from each other.

CG expressed his gratitude to KRA for fulfilling their promise of training URA in the performance validation exercise. He added that validation will ensure integrity in the performance management and its implementation is important.

“I requested KRA to handhold us because the style in which they’re doing the validation process is unique and this has contributed to their performance management,” he said.

Furthermore, CG said Performance management is a tool that will be prioritized among others saying a lot can be achieved if it is executed correctly.

“I urge you all to absorb so much from this training because this is a game changer that has helped Kenya hit all their targets so let’s learn this so that we are able to catch up on the target and end the financial year with the surplus. we are so conversant with almost everything,” he cautioned.

According to Richard Kariisa Commissioner Corporate Services, URA has achieved completion of performance agreements by all staff, core and cross cutting objectives to improve alignment of staff objectives and monthly performance evaluations of senior management and this is to ensure a continuous performance management that is timely with continuous feedback. He also urged management to embrace the tool saying,

“Let’s embrace this new performance approach as we are doing to drive individual staff accountability and ensure delivery of corporate objectives.”

URA recently embarked on a transformation journey of reviewing its process, systems and checking staff performance through the performance management tool that was rolled out last year. This is to drive a high-performance culture.

The performance management team will conduct trainings to handhold staff this week in preparation for the validation process that is commencing on Monday.
