In order topromote an engaged citizenry that will enhance voluntary compliance, URA has this financial year embraced partnerships with diffeent stakeholders including professional bodies.
Tax administration is also an enormous task that cannot be managed in isolation and thus calls for collaboration to enable URA create value that will contribute to the realization of Uganda ’s Economic Independence.
On Thursday the URA tax education engaged the Professional bodies under their umbrella on payment of stamp duty. The engagement had representation from the Institute of Internal Auditors(IIA), Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE), United Bank of Africa(UBA), Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioner’s Council(UMDPC), National Drug Authority(NDA), Uganda Journalists Association(UJA) , Association of Chartered Certified Accountants(ACCA), Uganda National Association of Teacher ‘’s Union(UNATU), Association of Graduate Nurses and Midwives of Uganda(AGNMU),Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union(UNMC) and Architect’s Registration Board and Engineer’s Registration Board .
Sarah Muzungyo Chelangat, the Commissioner Domestic Taxes explained that stamp duty is paid on some of the legal documents specified by the statute. These are documents by any right or liability purport to be created, transferred, limited, extended, extinguished or even recorded. The duty is payable on instruments executed in 45 days.
Paddy Ochieng, the Assistant Commissioner Service Management hoped that with the sensitization now, URA will receive accurate and complete declarations leading to improved voluntary compliance.
He also urged the representatives to collaborate with URA so as to close the gaps especially as we end the year.
