In a bid to bring services closer to the people and support their capacity to contribute their fair share to the revenue basket, URA has started construction of a service centre in Masaka. The office will house both customs and domestic taxes departments offices as well a 250-seater conference room.
Speaking at the launch last Friday, Abel Kagumire, the Ag. Commissioner General added that the new offices will enhance URA ‘s vision of mobilizing enough revenue so that the country is free from borrowing.
Meanwhile, the project will cost UGX 9.9 billion shillings and has been fully funded by the government of Uganda; underscoring the importance of paying taxes.
Mr. Kagumire, asked the local leaders to fully support the project that will also give facelift to Masaka.
He added that this financial year URA is positioning themselves as a customer centric institution, to listen more to the taxpayers so that they can voluntarily compile.
The Ag. Commissioner Corporate Services Ishta Nazziwa Kyambadde noted that the new office structures in different regions will improve the working conditions of the URA officers as well save the organization rent expenses. This project is set be complete by October 2023.
URA is planning for additional offices three in the different regions to increase face-to-face and more focused tax education through smaller groups in locations where taxpayers operate.
