The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) recently conducted a tax outreach program in Mubende focusing on women in business.
The program brought together entrepreneurs, business owners, and taxpayers from various parts of the district.
According to Isaac Aijuka, the Ag. supervisor tax education outreach-southwestern , the team also sought to understand the needs of the traders to support them better.
“We wanted to hear directly from the women taxpayers in Mubende about their experiences and concerns when it comes to tax,” said Isaac. “This will help us to better understand their needs and provide targeted support and guidance.”
The entrepreneurs were sensitized on the different types of taxes and their importance, taxes imposed on different businesses, and URA’s enforcement measures.
Peter Allan Senkubuge, station head of Mubende domestic taxes, thanked the women for continuously paying their taxes, contributing to the good performance of the station.
During the session, participants raised concerns about the complexity of tax laws, client care, and the difficulty in accessing tax information.
Denis Bambiha a domestic taxes officer in Mubende responded highlighting URA’s revamped tax education that is sectored to cater to individual businesses.
He also urged the business owners to deal with URA directly rather than going through middlemen.
Participants appreciated URA for the learning session that provided a better understanding of tax laws and regulations.
“I have gained a lot of knowledge and I am confident that I will be able to comply with tax laws and regulations,” said Fridah Katereega, the chairperson Mubende business community.
Tax outreach programs are part of URA’s broader strategy to promote tax compliance through tax awareness and education.
