URA’s tujenge bus sensitization campaign yields results in West Nile Region

By Kamugisha Kabahweza Allan

The recently concluded Tujenge bus sensitization campaign in the West Nile region has yielded impressive results generating UGX 33.9 million in paid taxes and Payment Reference Numbers (PRNs) for taxes to be paid.

During the two-week campaign, the Mobile URA Office visited the districts of Arua, Maracha and Yumbe assisting 559 taxpayers in obtaining tax identification numbers (TINs), generating PRNs and educating them on their rights and obligations as taxpayers.

Esiru Edigu Emmanuel, the In-charge of Koboko URA Domestic Taxes station, commended the Tax Education Outreach team for their support in mobilizing and collecting revenue.

“The Tujenge Bus has enabled us to reach a wider area and engage with taxpayers in big groups, allowing us to reach those who have not contributed their fair share of taxes,” Esiru noted.

The campaign revealed that some taxpayers were not paying taxes because they waited for URA to reach out to them rather than self-assessing themselves. The Tujenge Bus helped bridge this gap, enabling URA to reach taxpayers in hard-to-reach areas.

Joshua Muwonge, the Tax Education Outreach Team lead, reported that the exercise generated PRNs amounting to UGX 33.9 million, with taxpayers paying UGX 9.9 million instantly.

Meanwhile, URA through the tujenge program, aims to reach all eligible taxpayers through its Tax Education Outreach programs, widening the tax base and cultivating a tax-compliant culture among Ugandans.
