The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is facilitating a new taxpayer onboarding initiative at the Mpondwe One-Stop Border Post (OSBP), a vital trade gateway between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Gerald Bwambale from URA’s tax education division highlighted the importance of this training, emphasizing that it marks a major step in boosting cross-border trade by registering new taxpayers.
He explained, “By registering traders at this key location, URA aims to bring informal traders into the formal economy, ensuring they contribute to Uganda’s tax revenue in an organized way.”
The onboarding process not only helps businesses understand their tax responsibilities but also simplifies the registration process and offers guidance on efficient tax filing.
This initiative is part of URA’s broader plan to streamline tax collection and improve compliance, particularly for businesses involved in cross-border trade.
Mpondwe OSBP is a crucial hub for goods moving between Uganda and the DRC, the initiative is expected to support the livelihoods of numerous traders and businesses that rely on the border for their economic activities.
