The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) hosted 30 students from Kabojja International School Year 13 economics, accounting and business classes. The visit aimed to educate the students on taxation, tax types and URA’s role in national development.
Lodia Victoria, the Ag. Supervisor of Tax Education welcomed the students and emphasized the importance of tax education in nurturing a tax-compliant generation. She explained that URA’s revenue collection funds essential public services such as healthcare, education and infrastructure.
Lodia highlighted the need for taxpayer support to fund the government’s budget and develop the country. She also mentioned URA’s partnership with the National Curriculum Development Center to create a new curriculum for secondary schools, aiming to improve taxation knowledge and tackle challenges like smuggling.
On the other Hafsah Seguya, the Supervisor Tax Education in central noted that Uganda has only 4.5 million taxpayers, highlighting the need for increased tax registration and compliance. She outlined URA’s innovations, such as instant Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) and the mobile Tujenge bus, to enhance compliance and awareness.
Swaibu Walyabira, a teacher from Kabojja International School expressed gratitude to URA for the educational opportunity, which provided valuable insights into tax compliance and administration.
