Buganda Kingdom Honors Top Compliant Businesses

By Dismas Nuwaine

On Friday evening, Buganda Kingdom celebrated excellence in business compliance and ethical practices of their institution-aligned entities during their annual Christmas Carols at Bulange Palace in Mengo.

Buganda Broadcasting Services (BBS) emerged as the overall winner, excelling in a rigorous evaluation process.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga praised the institutions that were recognized for their dedication to maintaining high standards in their business operations.

The evaluation criteria focused on key factors such as formalizing businesses, timely, consistent and accurate filing of returns and keeping proper records. These standards set a strong example for ethical business practices and a hallmark of URA’s strategic tax education initiatives.

Buganda Kingdom, through its platforms like BBS and Central Broadcasting Services (CBS), has been a valuable partner to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in promoting tax compliance and ethical practices. The Commissioner General of URA, John R. Musinguzi has frequently utilized programs like the Kalisoliso morning show to highlight the importance of paying taxes and maintaining ethical business standards.

Robert Kalumba, the Ag. Commissioner for Public and Corporate Affairs praised Katikkiro and his team for highlighting the significance of ethical business practices and recognizing institutions that have committed to these standards.

He encouraged businesses of all sizes to follow BBS’s example by embracing responsible practices, such as timely, accurate, and consistent return filing, which play a vital role in driving the country’s development.

Her Royal Highness, Omwana w’Engoma, Princess Joan Nassolo, represented the Kabaka, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, at the event.

In her address, she urged the workforce, both within and beyond the kingdom, to dedicate themselves fully to growing their businesses. She emphasized that through hard work and commitment, they not only build their own success but also contribute to the broader advancement of the nation.

Each year, one of the 28 institutions affiliated with the Kingdom takes on the responsibility of organizing the Christmas Carols.

Last year, the mantle fell to the Buganda Land Board. This year, BBS, as the winner, showcased its leadership in putting together a memorable event.
