Proscovia Nabbanja, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda National Oil Company, met with URA ‘s Ag. Commissioner General Denis Kateeba to discuss tax-related developments since UNOC became the sole importer of petroleum products in Uganda.
“The engagement is to provide an up date on how we have progressed as we push for greater compliance” Nabbanja explained.
She lauded the long-term collaboration and support from URA in driving the implementation of the policy change that allowed UNOC to be the sole importer of petroleum products.
Several concerns were raised during the meeting, including URA’s request to be present at planning and scheduling meetings with suppliers.
“There is a desire to understand how the limitations faced by stakeholders may impact revenue collection. The belief is that this involvement will enable URA to project revenue more accurately,” Kateeba argued.
He reaffirmed URA’s willingness to support UNOOC in its efforts to become more efficient, given its role in the oil industry.
This includes having further discussions with stakeholders to devise the best ways of supporting UNOC.
“The aim is to reach a consensus and determine the best way to provide support without compromising revenue,” Kugonza said.
