Suspected extortionists released on bond

By Kamugisha Kabahweza Allan

Two individuals arrested for extorting importers have been released on police bond.

Sserwanga William and Nuwagaba Pius were taken into custody last week following reports that they were extorting importers under false pretence of being URA informants They would threaten to report them to the tax body if they did not comply.

URA’s Manager of Customs Intelligence Col. Cassette Ignatius Wamundu stated that the two were arrested on May 1, 2024.

They have been released on police bond as investigations continue.

Wamundu cautioned the public not to deal with the two emphasizing that they are not URA employees. He requested traders to report any dubious activities from persons purporting to be URA officers.
