URA sweeps Kapchorwa and Mbale of uncustomed Goods

By Akinyi Winiefred

In a bid to support traders in Eastern Uganda, URA organized a regional force to traverse the districts in the region and rid them of uncustomed goods.

Over the weekend, the team conducted operations in the districts of Mbale and Kapchorwa targeting smuggled goods, especially wheat flour, sugar and soap.

In Kapchorwa, a Fuso truck registration number UAM762X was intercepted as it delivered smuggled wheat flour and sugar to the trading center.

“Whereas the residents tried to block the road and threaten us with violence, we managed to successfully escort it to our yard in Mbale,” Luke Kivumbi one of the officers in the operation narrated.

The operation continued to Mbale where another colossal amount of uncustomed goods was seized.

By the end of the operations, the team had impounded 254 cartons of wheat flour, 19 bags of Sugar, 148 boxes of soap, 24 boxes of Colgate herbal toothpaste, and 4 boxes of Bic pen all made in Kenya.

The goods are currently held at the URA tactical base in Mbale as offense management ensues.
