The URA Commissioner General, John R. Musinguzi has conveyed condolences to the family of the late Amori Jackson who lost his life in a tragic smuggling-related incident last year.
“I bring condolences from the organization that I lead. We are deeply saddened and we regret the unfortunate demise of one of our comrades, the late Amori Jackson who passed on last year,” said Musinguzi.
Musinguzi relayed the condolences at Boma Grounds in Koboko Municipality on Monday during a baraza that was attended by leaders including Members of Parliament, the district leadership, Resident District Commissioners, business leaders and the community.
He emphasized that stopping smuggling should not result in any more deaths.
“We agreed in a meeting that this should be the last time such a thing happens, and we can achieve this by cooperating, “he added
Musinguzi urged the community to always comply when stopped by the enforcement team and avoid the habit of pelting stones at law enforcement officers to end the violence.
“What causes the unfortunate shedding of blood is when you refuse to cooperate with law enforcement officers when they try to seize un customed goods. Don’t rally people to attack law enforcement officers. A life is lost, and nothing is as precious as life. Let’s condemn the acts together,” he emphasized. .
Hon. Henry Musasizi, the State Minister for General Duties stated that some tragic instances could have been prevented if they had been managed more effectively.
“We found out that it is true that some incidents that led to the deaths of our people could have been avoided if handled better and the officers involved will be arraigned in court to face charges,” he said.
