In a bid to increase tax education through smaller groups, the URA Commissioner General recently met a group of women farmers under their umbrella group, Twambuke.
Dr. Sarah Muwonge, the Secretary General of the association, expressed interest in partnering with URA to empower her group members with tax knowledge. The association that has presence in over 18 counties in Buganda, Muwonge confirmed would deliver on voluntary taxpayer compliance.
In order to seal this partnership, Muwonge suggested that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) be signed between the two entities.
Musinguzi in his remarks welcomed the proposal, noting that partnership with the association would complement URA’s efforts in widening the tax base.
“The biggest obstacle to tax compliance is that people don’t know what to pay or how to do it. URA is closing this gap, and finding partners like the Twambuke women’s group, it makes our work easier,” he said.
Musinguzi also added that collaboration is the way to go, having succeeded with associations such as the Uganda Manufacturer’s Association, Kampala City Traders Association, cultural institutions among others.
