URA takes tax gospel to Radio Simba engule program

By Joshua Niyonshima

URA engaged taxpayers during the recently concluded engule tournament held by Simba Radio in Mukono. The taxpayers were tipped about the waiver of penalty and interest tax measures that was implemented this financial year.

Michael Masembe, the Ag. Manager Tax Education at URA clarified that taxpayers who pay their outstanding primary tax by December 31, 2023 will have the opportunity to have their interest and penalty waived by virtue of a mechanism enshrined in Section 40D of the Tax Procedures Code Act.

“Additionally, we have streamlined our ledgers to make the service easier to use. Note that this is a temporary program, so make the most of it,” he added.

Kigudde Wilson, the General Secretary, Engule Ya Simba commended URA’s commitment to supporting the preservation of Buganda’s cultural heritage and widening tax education to the people.

“We appreciate URA for partnering with us to make the contest possible. Your efforts in reaching the masses through grassroots programs like Engule cannot be undermined,” Kigudde said.

The Engule Ya Radio Simba competition started in 2002 with the intent of promoting Buganda customs and current affairs through quizzes. With 11 years of experience, this year’s competition attracted 66 contestants. The competition, which started in September climaxed last sunday, December 3rd 2023 with four people reaching the finals.
